DATUM FEATURE SNAP?

DATUM FEATURE SNAP?

DATUM FEATURE SNAP?

(OP)

Dont get me wrong, i love sworks (drawing parts 3 dimensionally is quicker and easier), but in my opinion they really need to work on making the drawing/detailing aspect of it more customizable.  Detailing has been nothing but one giant hastle in every job i do.  Anyhow...questions:

Using Sworks 2005

1.  Im setting a datum feature on the left face of a pipe.  I grab the line i want as my datum face, pull the symbol down (its set to 1982 style) and set it into place.  Everything looks fine and dandy.  If i click the datum symbol, i see the snap/anchor point appear on the right side of the datum box (i have the datum feature flagged off to the left side of the vertical dim. line it is on).  I save my drawing and exit out.  When i open it back up, for some reason solidworks decides to move the anchor point on the datum feature from its original position on the right to the center bottom, thus moving my datum feature symbol so that it is centered on the vertical line I originally placed it on (looks very stupid >:P ).  I have scoured solidworks help files for many, many, many hours dealing with piddly crap like this and most of the time i have to cheat my way around, or just cope with it.  Is there somewhere in Sworks where you can customize things like this, because options doesnt seem to give you much control over detailing.

2.  Since upgrading from SWORKS 2004 to 2005, printing detailed drawings has suddenly become an issue (even using edrawings).
    I use a HP laserjet 5000 for 8.5 X 11's & 11 X 17's and a HP designjet 750c for anything larger.  Both printers have problems with solidworks.
The 750c just cant seem to hold the information (even though i just put plenty of extra memory on it).  When i go to plot my assemblies after saving them to edrawings, ill send the plot and look in my network/server's printer cue and for whatever reason the file increases from like 1200k to 15000k or something (a dramatic increase in size).  Anyone else encountered this?
As far as the laserjet 5000, for whatever reason, my object lines arent showing when i plot above 300dpi resolution.  The plotter holds up to 32meg at a time and none of the files i send to it have been over 3.  I have no idea whats going on.  Any ideas?

RE: DATUM FEATURE SNAP?

Can't help with Q1, but for Q2, check with HP for latest printer drivers.

RE: DATUM FEATURE SNAP?

I do not use 1982 datums. Try switching to 1994 spec, I do not see a problem with it.
With printers, some users have problems with certain printers, some don't. Variuos printing problems depends on your OS setup, SW/SP versions, printer settings and drivers. It's trial & error. This is the same for most CAD software.

RE: DATUM FEATURE SNAP?

1) SW goes by the standards that you are using (Example: ANSI standards) This sounds like a possible bug - have you contacted your VAR yet? - Send them them an RX of the issue and let us know what they say.

2) CBL is right update your drivers to the latest. Printers work the same as video Cards. Yo uahve to continually update the drivers or it will eventually not correctly.

Also, if you get a Print preview and it's correct, then the problem is not a SW issue, it's a printer/Driver/Windows issue.
