Centrifugal Blower Problems in Pneumatic Conveying

Centrifugal Blower Problems in Pneumatic Conveying

(OP)
Hey,
We are experiencing a wierd situation with one of our centrifugal blowers for our airveying system.  The blower starts off at the correct ampage, then just slowly steps down till the blower stops.  There is no VFD on the blower at all.  There is a spare blower inline which utilizes the same flow path as the other blower, bu it works (except for a 3 ft section of piping that we checked for blockage).  Any other troubleshooting that you guys know of with blowers (vacuum type) that could explain this occurance in the amps for the main blower??

Thanks

RE: Centrifugal Blower Problems in Pneumatic Conveying

I take it that the standby blower is exactly the same as the one having starting problems. From your description, once the blower is started it comes to a stop by itself. It appears more like a motor problem. Why do not you change the motor with the standby equipment and see what happens.I am assuming that the motor starter is working all right. Is it star-delta or DOL?

The blower is a Clarage blower.  I don't know what you mean by DOL?

Thanks for the assistance.

The bearings may have seized. Disconnect the power and see if you can turn the wheel by hand and feel if there is drag. Check also if the bearings are hot.
