Density

Density

(OP)
Hello,
In the part I try to change Density in Material Properties by typing new density .10 lb/in^3, but old density
.30 lb/in^3 comes back. Material not specified.
Where is my mistake?
Thanks

RE: Density

You need to specify a material.

RE: Density

Hi,
I can change density before I specified material.
If I specified material and removed material I cannot change density by typing in Material Properties.
Thanks.

RE: Density

When you create a part, it will default to the material specified in your part template (.prtdot} file. Once you specify & then remove a material for a part, that part will no longer have any  material properties assigned to it & therefor, none to be edited.

Thank you.

RE: Density

My tamplate does not have specified material and I can change the density. When I specified material and remove it
I cannot make changes.

RE: Density

Try changing the density under mass properties instead.

RE: Density

Can you make changes after re-specifying a material?

Just curious, why are you removing the material?

RE: Density

It does not work under mass properties.

We use material not listed in SW so I type material in
custom properties of the model.
You can check it, use SW template, it does not have a material.

RE: Density

If you are repeatedly using a material that is not listed you can add a new one.  I did it many times but have been away from SW for almost 2 years now so I don't remember how it's done anymore.

RE: Density

Check the Help file for Materials Editor PropertyManager
or open the Materials Editor & select Create/Edit Material to create a new "custom" material for future use.

1. Open part template without specified material.
2. Make a part.
3. Specify material.
4. Remove material.
5. Change existing density to 0.10 lb/in^3; new density will not appear.
6. Specify material (second time).
7. Remove material.
8. Check density; you will see 0.10 lb/in^3.

Very strange!

RE: Density

Every part should have a material assigned to it.

I repeat my question ... Why are you removing the material?

RE: Density

You can enter 150lb^ft3 all day but once you hit enter if Tools\options\units are not set to feet then it will just convert it. Don’t worry it took you just have to tell it how to display it.
