Footcandles Requirements

(OP)
Hi, can anybody tell me where I can find the minimum illumination requirements for listed ocupancies.  I'm specifically looking for a hair salon.  The clients may want that the barber be able to distinguish between their hair and their ears.

RE: Footcandles Requirements

Wisonv,

The IES recommends a level of 50-100 fc at task for Barber shops and beauty parlors.

Where color is important, be sure to specify the appropriate color rendering index (CRI) and temperature for the lamp to be installed.

RE: Footcandles Requirements

aleham,
I know a couple of books you can get from local distributors that can help in lighting design.  The one I use quite often is the "Philips Lighting Handbook", and Westinghouse also has one.  Perhaps talk to a lighting supplier and they will be able to help you out
