(OP)
Looking for information on software using cad files. This is new to us and we are renting the GPS units for the equipment, but we don't know how to make the the files. Someone has said to use Auto Cad but it seems there are several types of Auto Cad. Any help would be appreciated.

RE: GPS systems

Luhrs, we use Trimble GPS equipment using TerraSync software on the field portable unit. Additionally, we have our own base station running Trimble "Pathfinder". Once you take the field GPS obersvation, you use the base station files to provide a differentially corrected x,y coordinate. The spatial data (x,y) and the land base must be on the same state plane coordinate system. You can then import or manually enter the x,y into Autocad as a point. We use AutoCad 2004, older versions will also work. Hope this helps
