Depropanizer Tower Inclination

Are there any criteria for the dip angle of Valved Tray Distillation Tower Design? What is the tolerable limit which still allowing the tower working normally?

Our case is that a 90ft high 36 traies depropanizer tower is inclined a little bit. The head of the tower moved 3in after it is built on site. Is this will be the problem for the normal operating or not a concern at all?

Thanks for your help!

RE: Depropanizer Tower Inclination

Ludwig gives tray tolerances as follows. (maximum tolerable slope) Up to 3 ft. dia  +/-  1/8";  3 ft to 5 ft dia.  +/- 3/16"; Over 5 ft. dia. +/1   1/4". Kister concurrs.

RE: Depropanizer Tower Inclination

I forgot to add that, although I have not done the math, it sounds as if you are in trouble. Better consult the tray vendor ASAP.

Regards,

RE: Depropanizer Tower Inclination

As per calculation, it can go upto 4.5 inches. So no worry!!

RE: Depropanizer Tower Inclination

One source says that for towers with diameters larger than 5 ft an incline of 3 degrees may result in a loss of liquid/vapor mass transfer of about 20%.
