Stainless Steel vs Hastelloy C?

Stainless Steel vs Hastelloy C?

Is there any way to tell the difference from stainless steel and hastelloy C once you have a part installed?

I ordered some filling lances for a bleach product, that was supposed to be hastelloy C, but I am finding black speck on the lance, similar to what we found when using the stainless lances. I am afraid the vendor sent me the wrong parts, but would like to be sure.

RE: Stainless Steel vs Hastelloy C?

Portable analysis equipment of any type will do the job.  You could probably even us EMF for this task.

Corrosion never sleeps, but it can be managed.

You might try a magnet.  The 316 will be magnetic if it has been cold worked at all.  The Hastelloy will not.

I've already tried a magnet. It is not magnetic, but neither are any of the other SS parts on the machine. I guess I'll have to get a technician in to do some testing as we don't have any analysis equipment for this job.

Thanks for the help
