problem with circular instance feature

problem with circular instance feature

problem with circular instance feature

(OP)
Hi everybody!

I've a problem with Circular Instance Feature in NX2... As usual is these cases, the Help doesn't help...

Problem: a solid body created by sewing 5 Studio surfaces together can not be instanced, nor can the single "un-sewed" surfaces.

Description: I'm creating a parametric model of centrifugal impeller; the first blade is created in this way:
parametric curves by law -> Studio 2x2 Surfaces for the blade's "sides", Studio 2x2 Surface for the trailing edge, Studio 2x1 Surfaces for closing the volume.
At this point, I'd have to instance the whole blade or the blade's surfaces n times (n is the number of blades).
This is impossible in any case:
- if trying to instance the single surfaces one by one, the error returned is something like "can not combine surfaces and solids"
- if trying to instance all the blade's surfaces at the same time, the error returned is "all the faces must belong to the same solid"
- if first sewing the surfaces into one solid, and then trying to instance the "sew" feature, this feature is not available for selection in the Instance command
- if sewing into solid, then Adding to hub's solid, then trying to instance the "add" feature, once again this feature is not available for selection.

Question: how can I instance my blade in a circular pattern, parametrically?

Surely I'm getting confused somewhere, there must be a very simple explanation to my problem...

Thanks in advance, bye!

RE: problem with circular instance feature

Sew the blade into a solid, and then extract a body (blank original) from that blade solid.  Unite the extracted blade to the "hub", and then instance it around.

-Dave
Everything should be designed as simple as possible, but not simpler.

Thank you very much to all!!! And excuse me if I didn't pay enough attention to already posted threads...

You were all fantastic: problem solved! Thanks!
