Corrugated HDPE vs RCP

Does anyone know of durability studies that compare RCP vs HDPE (AASHTO M24 Type S)?  We generally make it contractor's option for storm drainage, but owner has concerns.

RE: Corrugated HDPE vs RCP

One other problem with HDPEP is the potential for fire.  If flamable liquids enter the sewer system and ignite the HDPEP will burn.  This then creates problems for roadways above the pipe.  In my region we have eliminated this as an option under many roadways.  As to your original question I do not have any additional information but I would suggest that you contact the manufacturer.

Here is one viewpoint from the HDPE side:

I recently had a client who was wavering on this same decision for an underground stormwater detention system. I had no problem recommending "properly installed" HDPE. We did use some of significant first cost savings to retain a quailfied lab to ensure that the HDPE pipe was "properly installed" (primarily quality bedding & backfill, with good, layered, compaction).

is a manufacturer's site, they can send you a binder.  You want the "Performance" tab out of the binder, which has a study by the Florida DOT addressing the fire concern.

RE: Corrugated HDPE vs RCP

hey, gbam!

How common are fires in drainage systems?

Also, a hot fire would oxidize CMP and spall RCP, both of which could lead to premature failure.
