Split Part into 2 or more using sections

Split Part into 2 or more using sections

Split Part into 2 or more using sections

(OP)
Just wondering how can I split the a part into 2 or more parts but using a section line to specify where the split would occur.  I tried using split command but I can't figure out how to select a section were I would like to split the part.  Anybody?

RE: Split Part into 2 or more using sections

Try doing a surface cut.  Cut away one half, then save as a copy.  Then go back to the original part, edit the surface cut feature so that it cuts away the other half, and save as copy.

Make sense?

RE: Split Part into 2 or more using sections

Place a plane at the position you want the split to occur. Then pick it to make the cut.

RE: Split Part into 2 or more using sections

Using the split command is the easiest way to do this. You can use a sketch to define your parting line, or generate a surface if it is a complex parting line.

Typically I use the sketch method, once selected hit the "Cut Part" button. this will then cut your part into multibodied parts. you can then slect each body in the list and save it as a customized name.

The benefit of using Split Part is that you can go back to the part which you had used the split feature on and make changes to the overall shape and each saved body/part will update accordingly. Hope all this makes sense.

If the Split tool is used, both the plane method (for a straight cut) & sketch method (for a multi-facetted cut) will work. A zero thickness surface of any shape can also be used.

The surface cut method (listed above) also works, but is longer & more complex.
