Press fit calculation of 3 rings

Press fit calculation of 3 rings

Press fit calculation of 3 rings

(OP)
Hi,

Please let me know hot to calculate the min. interference required considering an assembly of 3 rings one over the other (inner shaft, middle stacked circular plate and outer sleeve).

I had been using 2 ring approach to calculate the interference but getting very high interference value. The loads that are acting on the system are uniform temperature load and angular velocity.

Please advise.

Thanks

RE: Press fit calculation of 3 rings

You have three elements, one with internal load, the middle with net external (+/-) load, and the third with external load. There are two unknowns and three relationships using these unknowns. It looks solvable using the ring equations.

Thanks Plasgears.

Could you suggest some litrature regarding the above problem?

If you have any specific equation / spread sheet, could you please send it.

RE: Press fit calculation of 3 rings

Roark's should get you on the right track. It's the classical cannon model with a ring within another ring. The pressure between the outer rings is one unknown. The pressure between the inner rings is another. Assume the net pressure on the inner ring as the difference between outer pressure and inner pressure. A graphical analysis could be the easiest way to get the solution. Assume several values for the unknown and plot deflection, for example. Convergence occurs when the deflections coincide.
