Pressurised Quench - Plan 62 Pseudo 54!!

Pressurised Quench - Plan 62 Pseudo 54!!

Pressurised Quench - Plan 62 Pseudo 54!!

(OP)
Hey

Now a Plan 62 is a thru flowing (to drain) Quench fluid which is limited to, say, 1 BarG to prevent seal blow out or Lip Seal Blow Out.

Replace that outer side lip seal with a Mech. Secondary Seal you can have a higher pressure quench plus a more robust seconday seal.

Now, would we want to raise the Quench pressure to above box pressure and run it like a double pressurized seal ONLY we still have a 'Quench' system.
The pressure will be gained by throttling the quench after the seal with an orifice plate etc.

This system will not be a Plan 53 or 54 in my mind and a pressurised quench seems an odd thing to do apart from trying to make sure no crystalising product gets into the seal barrier chamber by having a higher Delta P on the barrier (a quench gets rid of this 'leakage' anyway).

This proposed system doesnt give me much confidence as it will be a Pressurized Open Loop! Even going to drain.
P53 and P54 are closed loop for obvious reasons.(to me)

Info - the Inboard seal is double balanced
Product is Hot Caustic in region of 50% conc.

Thoughts??
