Use of zirconium in methanol

Use of zirconium in methanol

Use of zirconium in methanol

(OP)
Does anyone know if there will be problems related to the use zirkonium in a valve. The valve will normally handle seawater, but the media can occationally, for short periods, be pure methanol. The temperature is about 60C.

RE: Use of zirconium in methanol

Zirconium seems like an awful expensive choice for methanol, why not high-moly stainless steels or non-metallics ?

RE: Use of zirconium in methanol

Thank you for the help. The material is choisen because there is NO toleranse for corrosion for this part. The media is not normally methanol, but a mix of produced water and reservoir gasses. At this temperature, this inviroment is devastating for many materials. But I will check up the suggested materials, joeswoes, and see if they can "do the job".

your welcome linda, check out composite ball valves and lined composite butterfly valves at www.pureflex.com

good luck
