Need example on Calculating Wind Pressure on Siding

Need example on Calculating Wind Pressure on Siding

(OP)
Hi,
I need to analyze or prove that Alco vinyl siding can be installed on 3/4" cedar.
I think I am on the right track, however, I think I still need some help!
1. Mean roof height
2. Velocity pressures
3. Exterior pressure coefficients for the wall - Cp
        Windward
        Leeward
        Side Wall
4. Wind pressure normal & parallel to ridge (MWFRS)
5. Components & Cladding wind pressures

Okay now thats where I get lost. Once the Wall Coefficients and Pressures are determined then what do u compare them to?
The # of nails? The thickness of the cedar? Any help is appreciated or any examples I can get will be great.

Thanks

RE: Need example on Calculating Wind Pressure on Siding

Hello!

I believe, you want to check the structural integrity of ALCO Vinyl siding. If this is the case then what you need to do as under:
1.First of all,you need to calculate the pressure on your siding. Please refer to ASCE Publication 7-02(Minimum Load requirement for builiding and other structures). You will get the pressure, you need to apply on your siding.
2.Second step is to determine that, what is the span lenght of girths supporting your siding.

Generally, the siding vendors always come up with the table showing the maximum pressue and span lenght their product(siding)can take.Compare your calculated pressure as per ASCE 7-02 and span length of siding on site with the table provided by the siding vendor.By comparing, you can easily judge that, your siding can take the wind pressure or you need to reduce the span length of your girths supporting siding.

You will need to calculate a force on your fasteners and compare that with the capacity of the fasteners.  If you can you'll have to check also that the siding will not pull off of the fastener.  That's commonly called pull-over.

Thanks for all your help.
