Laterally loaded piles

Laterally loaded piles

(OP)
Does anyone know where I can obtain a copy of "Design of Laterally Loaded Piles", Bengt & Broms, Journal of the Soil Mechanics and Foundation, ASCE, Vol 91, SM3, May 1965?

Try the Linda Hall Library www.lindahall.org For a nominal coping fee they can get you most any journal article in science and engineering. They can fax e-mail or regular mail the article. ASCE should have it also. www.asce.org

RE: Laterally loaded piles

dmsbeam,

You may also be interested in obtaining "Design and Construction of Driven Piles - Volume 1" available for free download from FHWA (www.fhwa.dot.gov/bridge/geopub.htm).

This publication discusses both Broms and Reese methods and gives recommendations for lateral capacity of pile groups (based on the latest research at the time).

RE: Laterally loaded piles

Check with a geotech firm in your area who have "been around awhile".  They probably have it in their library.  I have all the volumes from '75 on, but all are in storage - too hard to lug about.  The older Geotechniques are pretty good too.

RE: Laterally loaded piles

You may be interested in "Laterally Unsupported Pile Study" and "How To Determine Lateral Load Capacity Of Piles" you can obtain both from my website (link below)

RE: Laterally loaded piles

You might also find the paper "Analysis and Design of Laterally Loaded Piles and Caissons in a Layered Soil System" by T.R. Naik and A. H. Peyrot, found in Methods of Structural Analysis, Vol.II, ASCE, 1976 helpful.  It extends Broms' paper to layered soils.

RE: Laterally loaded piles

jheidt2543, this reference sound interesting, but I have not been able to find any reference to it elsewhere.  I have searched ASCE's database (pubs.asce.org). Can you confirm that this is an ASCE publication?

RE: Laterally loaded piles

Panars:

The two volumn set is out of print, BUT you can find a used copy of the books at www.alibris.com for about $40 for the two books (well worth it) or check www.bookfinder.com  You might also ask for a copy of the paper at www.lindahall.org.

If none of those work, send me your fax number and I will fax you a copy of the paper.

RE: Laterally loaded piles

Thanks.  I have found it at a library where I can get it through interlibrary loan. I thought the ASCE database included all their publications, even those out of print. Evidently this is not true.
