Sizing of snuff steam system for coal bunkers

Sizing of snuff steam system for coal bunkers

Sizing of snuff steam system for coal bunkers

(OP)

Hello,

I have snuff steam lines running to coal bunkers and would like to verify that the lines are adequately placed and sized.

Does anyone know of references on the web that could provide information such as how much steam needs to flow in what period of time to fight a fire in a coal bunker of a particular size?

Thanks.

RE: Sizing of snuff steam system for coal bunkers

Project,

Although you ask a simple question, the answer is complex and would deal with the dynamics of the fire, the type and sizes of the fuel, the distribution of fuel and air etec..etc..

These people argue that a steam system may not be the best for coal silo/bunker fires:

(Of course, they are selling fire protection systems)

project...

You may consider posting this question on another forum..... either a forum discussing fire protection, or power plant design would be more appropriate..."Chemical Engineering", in my opinion, is not

Other industry sources suggest that a CO2 system is best for this type of fire ...

Page #119 of this US Army reference (circa 1984) suggests this method

What type of coal/fuel are you storing ???..??!!!

Not that nasty "Powder River Basin" stuff.....I hope ???

Anybody else got suggestions ???
