Assembly configurations in Inventor

Assembly configurations in Inventor

Assembly configurations in Inventor

(OP)
I use Inventor 9 currently. Ever since Inventor 6, when I first tried to create assembly configurations by using multiple iParts in an assembly and attempted to switch between different versions of an iPart to arrive at different assembly configurations, I have come up against error messages. With every newer version of Inventor, while it was under software design, we have been promised that Inventor will soon come out with assembly configurations just like Solidworks can do. Now that Inventor 10 has arrived, has this promise been fulfilled?
Thanks in advance.

RE: Assembly configurations in Inventor

Sorry, no configurations in R10. BUT I have been switching between I-part components with no problems and no loss of constraints.

I have even had some pretty good luck replacing a sub-assembly with another sub-assembly of similar components and no loss of constraints (I was pretty happy about that).

I have been re-modeling all my i-parts since most were created before I knew what I was doing, so that might make a difference too?

Thanks DesignerMike. Maybe Inventor10 deals with this a little better, however, this still leaves a lot of desired functionality out, like naming different configurations and switching between them at will. I guess Inventor 11 may have configurations??

RE: Assembly configurations in Inventor

We can hope! They really seem to be struggling with the functionality. It has to be a very high priority for them since everyone is asking for it....and the competition keeps rubbing it in their face.

In the mean-time you can try out Charles i-assembly tool which makes it much easier to create multiple assemblies. This tool combined with skeletal modeling or derived parts will get you part way there.
