C-spring design formulas

(OP)
I am trying to design a lock for artificial legs using  a  C spring. I am not able to find the design formulas. The spring has to deflect a certain distance and should apply a certain force. The choice of material can be anywhere from plastics to titanium. I am not sure where to start.
Please Help.

RE: C-spring design formulas

DESIGN HANDBOOK Engineering Guide To Spring Design 1987 Edition, Associated Spring - Barnes Group Inc. Chapter 10 - Retaing rings, Pages 66-70. It gives the design procedure for C-Shape retaning ring springs loaded at the gap or across the diameter.
