Foundation Design

Dantomi(Civil)
I am recently constructing a building in swampy area that required piling. And the piling Engineer has done the piling but requested that the PHC pile- will be filled with concrete for all the 15m. I dont see this as being cost effective. Pls advise.

RE: Foundation Design

What kind of pile did you use?  Filling the pile with concrete may be necessary if the pile design structural section design requires concrete.  Depends really on the basis of the design.

RE: Foundation Design

Hi Dantomi,

It is quite okay to fill the pile with concrete and i quite agree with BigH. The design basis will determine the tpe of pile but i am surre that the stel is more for the protection of the concrete. Find out from the contractor what his design calculation procedures.

I work regularly on swampy areas in southern Nigeria.
