Fire code question for congregate residence

Fire code question for congregate residence

Fire code question for congregate residence

(OP)
Have a question about fire code in a congregate residence or Fraternity house. We are going off 1988 UFC. Want to know if it is legal to have a wall mounted loft bed, 24" below a sprinkler. The loft sticks out from the wall 36". Any help would be great thanks

RE: Fire code question for congregate residence

That bed will be an obstruction to the spray of a sidewall sprinkler.  If the sprinkler is a pendent sprinkler in the ceiling, then technically, it may not be considered an obstruction, depending on the location.

I have seen several of these fraternity houses like this and you typically have a sidewall sprinkler under the loft bed.  There is likely going to be a lot of "storage" under the loft bed.
