Removing Cluter (keep command), CAT V5R14 SP2

Removing Cluter (keep command), CAT V5R14 SP2

(OP)
Hi,

Does anyone know if there is a command like "keep" on Catia V4 to remove any unused geometry.

I have created a model, in No Show are loads of construction elements, most of which are no longer requierd by final part.  I want to delete everything that I no longer require to get end the end result so that it is easier to modify at a later date.

In Catia V4 you can select the element you want to keep (IE a skin or solid) and it will delete everything in that model.

Regards,

Darren

If you will put ALL of your geometry in "show", you can then use the following to put all wanted or unwanted geometry into "no-show", and delete it from there:

Oops...

I also forgot - in the same picture, there is "delete useless elements."

It will get rid of anything that isn't attached to history somewhere in a solid body.

Solid7, Thanks again for a another great reply.  Is this only avaiable for solid models though?

Thanks,

Darren

Basically, yes.  It's not like V4 that kept the surface geometry, and its parents.

However, you can *deselect* the geometry that you don't want to disappear, by manually picking it before you accept the option to delete the "useless" stuff.

If someone else knows of a way to set the preference for the type of geometry to be kept using the "delete useless elements" command, it would be great information.  I do not know of any way to alter it, though.

We've had lots of problems with DELETE USELESS ELEMENTS, and recommend using it with CAUTION. (Save your part, before you run it)

RE: Removing Cluter (keep command), CAT V5R14 SP2

What sort of problems?

I've never seen any problems with it, but I'd like to be aware...

It deletes some elements that are parents, resulting in undefined child elements.

There was also a problem with parameters and formulas, but I don't recall the exact problem.

Because of these problems, I haven't tried it for several releases. We use INCAT's iCHECK program instead.

RE: Removing Cluter (keep command), CAT V5R14 SP2

have any of you chaps tried paramatisation analysis and show root features? This will show you all your finished items including excplicit unused items.

If you want to use delete useless elements thicken the final surface part by .01mm, then use the tabs at the top to show the items you are going to delete. Then you can always choose to keep items you require.
