Program for viscous fluid
(OP)
Hi,
Can someone tell me if there is a free program that is able to calculate the correction factor pumping viscous fluids with a centrifugal pump (as per HEI)?
Thanks

What I'm looking for is a stand alone (no WEB based) calculator for my laptop.
Thanks again

Viscosity is not as clear or simple as most sources would like to make it. You are dependant on stage design. The best thing to do is write your own spreadsheet based on viscosity charts then model or update to the actual operation. In fact I am currently in Venezuela doing just that. It’s not fun, but it is the only accurate way to accomplish viscosity calculations.

I am not sure what you are pumping, but here is my two pennies worth.
For Sewage Sludges TR185 (Frost) is used to calculate pipe friction losses when pumping viscous sludges.
In terms of correcting pump performance for viscosity with factors, each manufacturer's design de-rate differently, so a general programme will not be of much use.
When I need to de-rate centrifugals on viscous liquids, once I have selected the pump (in conjunction with the pump supplier), I ask them to give me a de-rated performance curve & if they are willing I ask them also for their de-ration info (factors , charts, graphs, etc) for future reference.
I hope this helps,
Berko

If you want to be able to model systems with non Newtonian characteristics of Newtonian fluids with high viscosity I suggest you invest in AFT's Fathom. Alternatively engage an engineer who has the software to do your engineeiring for you.
Or you can hit the books and model the system perrormance in Mathcad or similar.

The correction factor for flow, head and efficiency can be derived from the Hydraulic Institute Standards. These pump perfomrmance correction charts were curve fitted by Doane for use in spreadsheets.
Obtain a copy of the following technical article from Hydrocarbon Processing magazine to get the algorithms for the flow, head and efficiency correction factors for centrifugal pumps operating with highly viscous fluids.
