Motor Circuit Analysis Equipment

Motor Circuit Analysis Equipment

Motor Circuit Analysis Equipment

(OP)
Hi all,

Would anyone chime in on what they think is the best measuring equipment for motor and motor circuit analysis? I've seen some engineers at our sister factory with portable oscilloscopes that cost close to 10,000 dollars, but I think that's overkill for motors.
Would a 300Mhz. bandwidth oscilloscope show me anything more meaningful than a 100MHz. bandwidth one would for motor circuits?
Thanks for any input!

RE: Motor Circuit Analysis Equipment

To answer your question 300 verse 100 since everything you are looking at is in the 25KHz realm I don't think 300 is worth it.  I would rather spend the dollars on isolation aspects so I can connect to the signals of interest with less hassle.

Jraef just answered a a simiular question today on another post.

RE: Motor Circuit Analysis Equipment

The PDMA stuff looks fairly sophisticated but you can't touch it for the price mentioned above.

I think the All-test stuff (BJM?) with Dr. Penrose is in that price range.

I've been looking at the alltest pro-31 instead of buying
a traditional megger. My use would be primarily for
troubleshooting motor control circuits, (electric crane)
5 to 125 hp, 480 - 3 phase.
Can you or anyone else give an opinion or suggestion.
I don't mind spending a little more to have something
that I can feel confident on the readings I am to get.
