Sound barrier walls on residential/private property

Sound barrier walls on residential/private property

(OP)
Hi all,

Does anybody know whether International Building Code requires sound barrier walls erected by and owned by private property owner be desinged for seismic load?

Thanks in advance for info.

RE: Sound barrier walls on residential/private property

IBC 2000 Section 1622 covers "Nonbuilding Structures Seismic Design Requirements", which would seem to apply. (2003 should be similar, but 2000 is open on the desk.)

The AHJ would have the final word on what and how it is applied.  Note that S.1622.1 of the Code says "Nonbuilding structures that are beyond the scope of this section shall be designed by specific industry standards approved by the building official."
