Any general information out there that could help in the understanding of structural drawing nomenclature that would assist one in doing material take-offs for estimating purposes?

RE: Structural Drawing Material Take off for estimating

You can find any text on blue print reading that will aide in understanding structural nomenclature.

Of course that's assuming you're dealing with something new.  If you're dealing with something old, then check bookstore websites that deal with out-of-print texts for French or other old Engineering Drawing texts.
