Portable Cd player current draw?

Portable Cd player current draw?

Portable Cd player current draw?

(OP)
Hey guys,
Bit of a lame question:  Was wondering if anybody knows a "typical" current draw for a portable cd player.  I am in the midst of troubleshooting one that draws apporx. 300mA in play mode.  That seems high to me.  Is it not?

Cheers

k, i put this post up too soon, i compared it with another cd player and they are pretty much the same.  THe problem was that this cd player seems to suck the batteries dry in like an hour so thought i would check current draw.

RE: Portable Cd player current draw?

They can draw spikes that your meter won't see.  Sometimes these can add up.  But most likely it is the batteries!  They lose capacity slowly so you don't notice until it is truely causing operational problems.

I'm talkin rechargables of course.  If your players can take non-rechargables.  Condem a set to each player and see if there is a difference in the ife of two sets of new batteries from the same package.

apperently fresh batteries where put in and didn't last long at all.

RE: Portable Cd player current draw?

Hi Shamone,

I must point out that in the realm of batteries, "apparently" doesn't usually cut it.  You must be sure or you could spend a ton of you time running on wrong info.

Hey itsmoked,
The problem was, the cd player has a built is charger in it wo when the adapter is plugger in, the batteries charge, however, the user made a mistake of putting non-rechargable batteries in while charging and after that the battery life was drastically redeced.  As it is relatively inexpensive to replace, to know why the batteries don't last long anymore will be simply out of curiousity.

Cheers

RE: Portable Cd player current draw?

Generally devices that can take non-rechargeable and rechargeable batteries usually can distinguish the difference between the two types of batteries and do not charge the nonchargeable batts.  Which means the charger *shouldn't* be damaged if that is what you are saying?

nah i don't think that is the case it is just that is when she noticed the batteries weren't lasting.  COuld be many things.  Not too worried about it. thanks for your time
