ASME Codes for Sensors
ASME Codes for Sensors
(OP)
Hello,
My company manufacturers a sensor that is inserted into a process pipe line. The sensor is connected to the process line with a flanged fitting. We are currently trying to attain a Candanian Registration Number which requires that we verify the system is designed to North American Standards (ASME code).
My question is which standard might apply. I would classify our sensor as a fitting (B16.x). Our sensor is simplistically a cylinder externally loaded by the process pressure. The inside of the sensor includes electronics that are potted in place. We have verified the design through stress strain models and exhaustive testing. However, need to perform an analysis using ASME code. I was also looking at the B31.3 code which is for process pipes. My thinking is that if the sensor meets the code of the piping then it should be acceptable for the application.
Can anyone help direct me to the approaproate standard to purchase. The sensor is a 316L SS housing with a couple of welded joints. A typical process may be up to 1000psi and 190C.
Thanks for your help in advance.

This page has links to all the regulatory authorities in Canada. You could check with one of them, generally they are quite helpful.

But you can talk to UL and CSA about the UL/ULc Standard for your component, I am sure you do not need anything else.
North American Standards mean that UL/CSA/ANSI etc
