IBC SEISMIC: Eqn 16-28

IBC SEISMIC: Eqn 16-28

IBC SEISMIC: Eqn 16-28

(OP)
hey All,

I am trying to find the seismic loads of a flat roof of a tank.  In the IBC 2000 Code, equation 16-28 states that

E = p*Qe + 0.2*Sds*D

I am confused about the Qe part of the equuation. How do I calculate the Qe. Do I just multiply the horizontal acceleration and the total mass of the roof.

Any help is highly appreciated.

Thanks,
Karthic

karthic79,

You should do a search for this in previous threads.  I think I have seen this topic before and it was explained better than I could now.
