API 610 edition applicability

API 610 edition applicability

API 610 edition applicability

(OP)
Customer is adding equipment to their 10 year old operating facility.  Part of this addition will be a new API 610 pump.  For compatibility it is desirable to purchase a pump identical to those already installed.  The original pumps were purchased to API 610 7 th edition while API 610 is 9 th edition is current for new construction.

Is it permissible to install a new pump in a new application manufactured to API 610 7 th edition while the 9 th edition governs new construction today?

Your help identifying the correct answer as well as references that support it will be most appreciated.

RE: API 610 edition applicability

afsiii,

Actually API 610 is now in it's 10th edition.  In the introduction the following text appears:

"Users of this International Standard should be aware that further or differing requirements may be needed
for individual applications. This International Standard is not intended to inhibit a vendor from offering, or
the purchaser from accepting alternative equipment or engineering solutions for the individual application.
This may be particularly appropriate where there is innovative or developing technology. Where an
alternative is offered, the vendor should identify any variations from this International Standard and
provide details."

Buy what you want/need.

Regards,

Gunnar
