Modelling vee grooves

Modelling vee grooves

Modelling vee grooves

(OP)
Is there a way of modelling vee grooves directly as a feature within NX2?
At the moment we are either doing a sketch with the profile we need, revolving it, then subtracting it from our solid body; or doing a rectangular groove and tapering the two side faces.
Both these methods are a bit long winded if you have several grooves to do, and I would be very grateful for a pointer (if there is one, of course).

RE: Modelling vee grooves

I would look into instancing the grooves when creating multiple grooves.  You might be able to mirror the groove through a datum plane or array the groove somehow.  Kind of hard to offer a working solution without knowing the general shape of your part.

The part I am modelling is a dipstick and it's shape is a round bar with a flat portion machined on it. The vee groove goes across the flat and around the cylindrical face of the bar.

RE: Modelling vee grooves

You could use a pattern and specify the distance between the grooves.

"Fixed in the next release" should replace "Product First" as the PTC slogan.
