Allowable Nozzle Load Location
Allowable Nozzle Load Location
(OP)
We are being asked to supply the allowable nozzle load at a vessel contained inside a package skid. This nozzle connection is supported within 5 feet as the piping changes direction. We've supplied the allowable nozzle loads at skid edge connnections, which is where the customer will hook-up.
Question: Is there some new specification requirement calling for nozzle loads on vessels in addition to the ASME code calcs.

RE: Allowable Nozzle Load Location
Not so much a specification "in addition to the ASME code calcs" but a part of the code evaluation. The loads at the nozzle to shell junction must be evaluated. An experienced engineer may evaluate some of the loads as ok "by inspection" where a less experienced engineer may have to run calc's on all of them, but they must be evaluated. See UG-22(c): The loadings to be considered in designing a vessel shall include those from... superimposed static reactions from weight of attached equipment, such as motors, machinery, other vessels, piping, linings and insulation.
