Mechanical desktop 5 licence is shortly going to be no longer available, I thought the dwgeditor would allow me to open these files. My problems is that the drawing only shows 2d data dims and notes, not the 2d model views, I wasn't expecting to see the actual model.

Has anyone come across this?

Regards to all, James

RE: dwgeditor - mechanical destop 5

DWG editor only opens up 2D DWG files from like AutoCAD. If your MDT files are 2D drawings then the DWG Editor should open them, if they are not then you will have to open them into SW.

But to open the MDT files into SW, requires you to have MDT on your machine as well as SW. When you open the file in SW it opens MDT in the background and converts into a file SW can open. See help on opening the MDT file inside SW.

Oh crap! I feared this was the case. So I’m stuffed basically then.  If my MDT license goes I have no way of viewing theses files?

Thanks for clearing that up for me anyhow!

RE: dwgeditor - mechanical destop 5

I suggest start saving all of you Mech Desktop files in a format that SolidWorks (or whatever CAD you switch to) will open. Also maybe save them off as DXF for future use.
