FiberGlass Epoxy Resin for a headlight shroud

FiberGlass Epoxy Resin for a headlight shroud

Ok, so this might be a dumb question, but I have a set of custom foglights, they are projectors retrofitted into reflector housint, I need to make a custom shroud for them and was wondering if I could do it using epoxy resin, will it stand up to the heat of a 55W light bulb?

RE: FiberGlass Epoxy Resin for a headlight shroud

How hot does a 55 watt light bulb get?

I cant find the temperature of the bulb, anywhere online, but I would guess anywhere in the range of 150-200 degrees farenheit, ill try to take a measurement tonight.

RE: FiberGlass Epoxy Resin for a headlight shroud

If the light is enclosed then clearly it will get way hotter than if the light housing is open. I have seen PP as a shroud for a light at home whereas a car headlight housing is often made from polysulfone which has a continuous use temperature around 200°C. So, as Pat said you need to do some work on how hot you expect it to get.

I took a measurement but my thermometer stopped measuring at 220, it went past 220 through the unmarked area, and up to 80 and was still going, so im assumming its too hot for fiberglass.
