Transformer Noise

Transformer Noise

(OP)
Hi There :
Actually I've a Problem into knewing the reason of mading transformer made low noise espicially when a speciall load ( Electrical Heater ) is operated connected to its secondrey

RE: Transformer Noise

I would guess the resistive load of the electric heater is sufficient to cause the transformer to humm.

There are several reasons that a transformer will humm,

1) loose laminations in the core

2) loose windings or winding bobbins

3)  it likes the tune but never learned the words to "It's too darned hot".

RE: Transformer Noise

Transformers will always make some noise due to slight deformation of the core by the magnetic field.  Do a Google search on "magnetostriction".

RE: Transformer Noise

I remember my shock when I came across an electrical engineering drawing for wood transformer wedges.  Some electronic stuff is low tech. Like Tie Wraps.
