"The Stories of English"
"The Stories of English"
(OP)
This is a book I just picked up written by David Crystal and published (in the UK) by Penguin Books.
I warn you, it is not a book for the language police who regularly patrol these fora, as even in the introduction he talks about the liguistic ability and necessity of people to be able to use "standard (British) English" and informal English. I already perceive that he would probably regard this forum as an arena for "informal english".
It is, so far, an interesting read so if any one else is reading it, let's know what you think.
An intersting companion to "Eats, Shoots and Leaves" though I have yet to etermine if the author has the same sence of humour (but he is a Liverpudlian, so I expect so).
