EFFECT OF CHARGING CURRENT ON TX. DIFF PROTECTION

EFFECT OF CHARGING CURRENT ON TX. DIFF PROTECTION

(OP)

What effect does the line charging current have on a transformer differential protection?

RE: EFFECT OF CHARGING CURRENT ON TX. DIFF PROTECTION

Unless the line in question is between the CTs (inside the zone of protection), none.

RE: EFFECT OF CHARGING CURRENT ON TX. DIFF PROTECTION

I was also under the impression the OP was referring to the charging current on transmission lines - and not to inrush current. (totally missing transformer differential protection) However, the statement of stevenal is still valid because he states if the charging current is outside the zone, nothing will happen. But you are quite right with your summary, Mr Ramesh.

Posters have to remember eng-tips are forums with participants around the world, and there are a lot of different words for the same thing - the same word can even have different meanings in different countries. If you want
to obtain meaningful answers, you have to ask well thought-out questions.

Regards
Ralph
