exhaust stack sound test

exhaust stack sound test

(OP)
Hello,
I have to prepair a testing device for a sound test of exhaust stack 25'hight with moving central part with verticaly installed actuator. The problem is that this test is planned to be with horizontal location of the stack and axial fan. Is it practical?

RE: exhaust stack sound test

What's the objective of the test?

RE: exhaust stack sound test

The stack will be installed vertically,  but you need to test it in the horizontal position??
You can do it if you can eliminate the effects of ground reflection - like positioning it horizonatlly 25' off the ground.

But what kind of exhaust,  and what is the objective of this test?

RE: exhaust stack sound test

Riorita,

Depending on what you want to get from the test will determine if it is practical or not.

In the past, I have done SPL measurements on devices mounted horizontally that would normally mount vertically in their desired application.  Due to the size of the test rig, we didn't have a choice.  For that testing, ground effects did not seem to be much of an impact on the overall data.

If you are concerned about ground effects, you could try to eliminate the contributions from the ground where practical.

What kind of pressures and medium are you exhausting?

Regards,
Fred
