Reasonably priced DC motors
Reasonably priced DC motors
(OP)
I'm looking for a DC motor for a certain application. It has to run in one direction only and provide up to 100 ft-lbs of torque at 5000 RPM. I'd like to have speed control.
The bottom line is I'd like something cheap, reliable, and simple to use. If anyone can suggest a good vendor or other source I'd be very grateful.
Thanks!

RE: Reasonably priced DC motors
DC Motors that uses commutator-brushes have many problems-brush wear, brush dust, the heat is in the rotor (hard to get rid of), commutator speed limits (too fast, too much brush wear-the brushes start to aero-loft), etc.
I believe, argueably, that rare earth (RE) Neo magnet synchronous motors are the answer. These should be called "Electrically Commutated Motors" but are commonly called Brushless DC Motors. Neo magnets are actually intrinsiclly cheap (China has the Neo mines), the usual reason that large HP PM motors are stated to be "Too Expensive" but that is no longer completely true.
One could claim that the inverter to drive the motor adds a lot of expense but IGBT drive transistors and DSP control have gotten much, much less expensive. For example, see this company;
