Weldments: orienting the members

Weldments: orienting the members

Weldments: orienting the members

(OP)
I don't know why I'm not finding it in the help

I created a simple weldment from a 3D sketch. I want the thing to be made of steel angle.  It creates the weldment, but the steel angles and not pointed in the right direction. That is to say that I want the flat part of the angle facing down, but SWx is creating it with the top of the flange facing down. There has to be a way to control the orientation of the profile, right?

RE: Weldments: orienting the members

There should be a orientation button at the bottom of thestructural member dialog.  You can pick the insertion point and change the angle of the profile.

RE: Weldments: orienting the members

In the property manager there is a button that says "Locate Profile" You click that and pick a point in the sketch, If it's still not right you can adjust the angle. I have to do this to get my profiles the way I want them.

One thing you have to realize, is if you have 2 line on each end and you adjust one angle to be a certain way and you pick the second line. THat second line will orient that profile the same as the first. But lets say you wanted a mirror image on the other side. You will have to do this in 2 steps and probably reorient it like you did the other one.

RE: Weldments: orienting the members

If your angle has unequal legs and, Heckdogg and SBaugh's suggestions still do not get the angle in the orientation you want, you will need to select a line in the 3D sketch that was created in the opposite direction from the line you selected or erase your start line and construct it in the opposite direction from the original.
