selecting the compass

Does anyone know how to make it easier to select the red square on the compass for when your trying to move parts around in an assembly.  It takes forever to get my mouse to select it.  Thanks

RE: selecting the compass

That's quite an unusual question...

What are your hardware specs?  Do you have a certified configuration?  If so, what model, and what upgrades.
Do you know what graphics adaptor that you have?

Slow response times in assembly mode generally relate to your graphics adapter, and the amount of video memory available to them - at least on large assemblies.

It may also relate to the performance settings.

This problem could relate to a number of different things.

Can you explain the problem in a little more detail?

RE: selecting the compass

Mark,  (sounds like a good question to me)

I think there's a tools option to define the size of your 'pick area.' I'd try adjusting that.

Can you select other things OK?

Do you have pre-select highlighting turned on?

solid7, to answer your question as far as more detail on my question jackks reply above hits closer to what i'm trying to figure out.  It's not a computer hardware performace issue.in even more detial:

It seems that the "pick area" as jackk describes above is so small that i have to have the mouse pointer in just the right spot to be able to grab the red square on my compass.  do you know where this setting is controlled in tools options?  I'm running V5 R13 P1.  I hope this gives you more detail on my question.  Thanks for your help.

Mark

RE: selecting the compass

Sorry if I came across the wrong way - when I said that it was an unusual question, I didn't mean that it was a bad one.  It just truly was an unusual question!

I believe that I truly misunderstood what you were saying.  I've not ever had the problem that you are describing, but had similar compass pick problems, which were related to the video card.

Anyway, to answer your question, now that I DO understand...

Go to Tools -> Options.

Under the "General" heading, you will find "Display."  Go there.

Next, go to "Performances."

Near the bottom of the "performances" screen, is "picking," and an input box labeled "window size for picking."  The default value is 4.  If it's less than that, you will have the trouble that you have described. (I confirmed it)

Additionally, it's not a bad idea to turn on "enable accurate picking," and set the box size to the same as your standard pick box.

This is a new one on me.  But I do hope this helps.  Sorry if my previous comments were misunderstood.

Thanks so much that was exactly what I was looking for.

And don't worry I too thought it was an unusual question (i.e. not your typical catia forum question) hence my first post lacked detail I couldn't think of at the time.  Thanks to jackk for steering us in the right direction.

Again thanks for the help guys.

Mark
