Importing ADOBE PDF files onto drawings...

Importing ADOBE PDF files onto drawings...

Importing ADOBE PDF files onto drawings...

(OP)
I am in the process of taking all our company brochures and putting them into SolidWorks drawings from PDF documents. I have the ability to cut and paste them into a drawing, but when I scale them up, the resolution of the text gets really bad...Is there a direct PDF editor or does some have a technique to do this???

Thanks....

RE: Importing ADOBE PDF files onto drawings...

What version and SP are you using?

I am running 2005 SP3.1 and in the scale dialog there is a box you can checkmark called "sharpened zoom state". This helps a great deal when scaling inserted items onto the drawing sheet.

I think in the 2006 release they have added the ability to insert .PDF files into the drawing.

Best Regards,
Jon

SW2006 has the ability to import Adobe Illustrator files, which should  have a big impact on image resolution.

In 2005 you can add it to the Design Journal of a dwg.

brudje ... Just curious, why are you putting existing brochures on a drawing?

RE: Importing ADOBE PDF files onto drawings...

Normally Illustrator can edit PDF files?  Are you looking for external software for this?  If so, you can then use Illustrator to export into DXF (and I think DWG--not sure) and then bring in the line work to SolidWorks.

What matters is whether the "art" you're bringing in is vector or raster (pixel) based.  If pixels, you're stuck with the resolution saved within the PDF file.  If vector, you should be able to scale everything without degradation.

I am putting existing brochures on drawings so we can have some revision control over them, and so our inspection department can have an uptodoate document.  Theophilus you hit the nail right on the head wiht the raster vs. vector problem...That is exactly what I am dealing with....
