Ladder Rungs

Ladder Rungs

Ladder Rungs

(OP)
I need to find some specific documented information relative to materials that are acceptable to use for ladder rungs, such as ladders used on atmospherice storage tanks, pressure vessels and in general industrial applications.  I tried searching OSHA's website to no avail.  I have been told that rebar is unacceptable to be used as a ladder rung according to OSHA standards but have seen no such documentation and have seen rebar called out as the ladder rung material on numerous drawings and applications.

Thank you in advance for your help.

RE: Ladder Rungs

It is easier to buy ladder sections from a reliable supplier. they can be fabricated with curves, landings and railings. All of which facilitate construction and please OSHA.

RE: Ladder Rungs

Yes, but what do you do when you ARE the reliable supplier?  It is a valid question, and can't be disposed of by sloughing it off on a supplier.  See the discussion in the Boiler & Pressure Vessel forum.

I agree, it is silly to buy ladder rungs when we can fab them ourselves much cheaper...question remains...

RE: Ladder Rungs

Down Under the ladder rungs are generally 20mm diamater, mild steel, round bar.

The stiles are either 75mm x 10mm, mild steel, flat bar (for intermediate supports spaced at less than 3500mm) or 75mm x 20mm, mild steel, flat bar (for intermediate supports spaced at more than 3500mm)

RE: Ladder Rungs

I looked at one of our tank drawings- the vendor says for information on OSHA requirements (for ladders) see
'OSHA 1910.27'

I don't have that reg but hope this helps
