Tapered Threads
Tapered Threads
(OP)
I'm evaluating Pro/E Wildfire 2.0 and am trying to create tapered threads but I can't see how, the help doesn't provide any information that I can find.
Can anyone help me with this?
Can anyone help me with this?

RE: Tapered Threads
Pro/e can do a variable pitch helix which will enable you to cut tapered threads.

RE: Tapered Threads
I then created a cosmetic thread but it produced a tapered minor diameter and a parallel major diameter.
To ensure that this wasn't just a solid representation I created a new drawing and the drawing also showed a parallel major diameter.
I have tried to use helixes in other CAD packages before but, when using a small thread, for example 1/4" NPT, in a large object the drawing often shows the thread as a thick black blob without standard thread representation.
Inventor and Solid Edge both handle tapered threads easily, as hole features. Surely Pro/E should be able to cope with this as well.
RE: Tapered Threads
The threads needs to be shown as tapered on manufacturing and assembly drawings and show as tapered for output to CNC (something I know nothing about at the moment).
I've had a look at custom cosmetic threads and the help is garbage, it says "..Create a surafec copy feature using the SURF FORM Copy option..." so I did a search on "SURF FORM" and the only page it gave me was the one for custom cosmetic threads (I searched on fundamentals and part modelling).
The same was true of "..SRF Gather.." and "..Gather Fill..".
I tried the same searches in Surfacing and only got results for surf copy, non of which obviously explained what was required.
Is it possible to created a custom cosmetic thread using tapered surfaces?
Is it possible to find what you want in this help system?
Is there anywhere (apart from the mobile phone example) that provides walk-throughs so you can understand pro/e terminology as well as how to perform the actions?

RE: Tapered Threads
Callouts aren't enough in my opinion, what if the person reading the file doesn't know that a thread is tapered.
Standard procedures are that tapered threads are shown as tapered, showing a tapered thread as a parallel thread intoduces risk into a drawing and, in my opinion, and internally within our company, is bad practice.
Think it's something we will have to disagree on.
So, assuming that I have to show tapered threads as tapered threads how do I do it?
