Concrete Pad on Asphalt

Concrete Pad on Asphalt

Concrete Pad on Asphalt

(OP)
Concrete pad 5 feet x 12 feet x 4 inches thick...will support a piece of equipment that weighs about 700 pounds...can this pad be poured on top of an asphalt parking lot?

RE: Concrete Pad on Asphalt

I don't see why not.   Asphalt should be at least as good as
pouring it on top of dirt or an aggregate base.

RE: Concrete Pad on Asphalt

Try to pour it when it is cool or hose it down first. If the asphalt is hot from being open to the sun, the concrete could take the first set quicker than on soil. I doubt anyone will notice. If the surface of the asphalt is very rough, higher than usual shrinkage stress might be experienced, but the traditional percentage of steel should take care of it.

RE: Concrete Pad on Asphalt

If the pad is that big with only 700 lbs, probably it is OK. But the real concern for me if it were heavier would be what kind of compaction do you think you have under the asphalt?

When I was in college I could squat over 600 lbs, which has nothing to do with this thread but for some reason I felt an urge to throw that in.

RE: Concrete Pad on Asphalt

haynewp - that's more impressive than the 700 pounds on a 60 sq.ft. base!!  Can you still do it?  I'm >50 and had my bench back up over a 100kg but Drs now say NOOOOOOOO more.

RE: Concrete Pad on Asphalt

No I can't do it anymore. I would be lucky if I could squat 350lbs now. I had my bench over 400lbs back then too, I did 425lbs for 2 reps one day.

Now since I sit in front of a computer all day, my strength has gone to my waistline. I am trying to start back working out again but I always put it off to do something else, usually it is drinking beer.
