Certifications/Exams
Certifications/Exams
(OP)
I dont know whether is it appropriate to post this question in this group, excuse me. I am working as Mechanical Design Engineer basically dealing with machines. I was wondering whether is there any kind of certifications/exams that one can take in the field of Product design or machine design or even broadly design, something like a DFSS (Design for Six Sigma), PE, FE...... If so, please let know the sources (links). Thanks,
Raj.

RE: Certifications/Exams
Fifteen years back, I faced the same situation. I particularly despaired after taking the PE mech. eng. review course which focused on HVAC, gas dynamics, heat transfer, eng. econ, etc.(good stuff for steam plant design). I flipped for the exam fee, took the mech. eng. grand division test, and found that the test authors had graciously put enough statics, kinematics, dynamics, gearing, light structures, etc. other machine design related stuff in the test to let me in the club. Your present day experience may vary.
Be aware that most licensing PE authorities now require, in addition, a BS degree from a recognized institution and written testimonies vouching for your experience and practice in the field.
RE: Certifications/Exams
In the US, PE registration would be one option. Look up your state board of professional engineers for rules and regulations.
