UL Design Number and Detail

UL Design Number and Detail

UL Design Number and Detail

(OP)
Hi all,

I'm designing a project that requires fire sprinklers in the building.  Since we don't have a specialist in fire sprinkler, I'm just going to do a performance specifications for the fire sprinkler system and have the contractor design/build the fire sprinkler system.  The plans and performance specifications was sent to the State Fire Marshall (SFM), and it came back with a comment from SFM saying to provide a UL Design Number and Detail.  I don't understand what this comment is asking.  Where would I find this information when all I'm doing is the performance specifications and have the contractor design/build?  Should that be my response to the comment?

Any help is greatly appreciated.  Thanks.

RE: UL Design Number and Detail

You probably have a rated corridor.  The corridor is probably required to be 2 hour rated but with fire sprinklers the rating can be reduced to 1 hour.  The SFM wants clarification that the wall will be constructed to a standard such as UL U419 which requires a gypsum board on each side for a 1 hour and double gypsum board on both sides for a 2 hour wall.  The UL rating may also have how many fasteners are required.  Make sure dampers are in place where needed.
