Assembly loosing links?

Assembly loosing links?

Assembly loosing links?

(OP)
If for the age old bad house keeping reason you need to move an assembly into a different folder is there a simple way you can point all the files at one folder to find their original links or do you have to go through file by file re-attaching them?

RE: Assembly loosing links?

Use FILE, SAVE MANAGEMENT and Propogate the Directory.  This should fix the links.

You can also use FILE, SEND TO.
Or DMU, TOOLS, DMU Data Flow, Save as Frozen, Save as Product and Data.

Another Alternative, set your Search Order up (TOOLS, OPTIONS, GENERAL, DOCUMENT) to look in the Current Directory first.

RE: Assembly loosing links?

Hi,

If you are running a newer version of CATIA, this is not a problem. You can move it without problems.

Each part or product has an UUID (an universal identifier number) if they are created correctly and the links will be done automatically even if you are not using one of the methods already shown by catiajim (which are very correct precisely in fact).

Anyway, its better to test with few products and parts first.

Fernando

RE: Assembly loosing links?

Ferdo.
Which version of Catia are you referring to? It would be very nice if you could set search directories like in UG.
We always use send to or propagate otherwise it creates problems with the links.
We are using v5r12.

RE: Assembly loosing links?

Hi,

For me it works under r11. We created a lot assemblies in threee directories and after a time we put all the parts and  products in the same directory.

After that, indeed, we proceed like catiajim said ( (TOOLS, OPTIONS, GENERAL, DOCUMENT, look in the Current Directory first or put a specific directory on first place).

Otherwise, there will be problems with the links.

We use propagate diretory only when we export products in stp files in order to import later in VPM.

OS is Windows.

Fernando
