Performance Of Conveyor rolls

Performance Of Conveyor rolls

(OP)
is there nay method of improving the efficiency of the conveyor drive meant to carry raw material for Steel mIll.The rolls of the drive are ferrous and I suppose that beacause of the continuous wear there must be slippage bacause of the material loss which must be causing loss in the power.

RE: Performance Of Conveyor rolls

You should be able to reduce the slippage by matching the surface speed of the rolls.  If the surface speeds are within 0.5% the motors should be able to handle the rest.

If you have encoder feedback or SLV you would need to match the surfaces speeds closer since the VFD will try harder to maintain the set speed.

There are many digital tachs, encoders and such to measure the surface speed of the rolls.

If you are looking to cut your power bill you might be able to use zone control depending on your setup.  Let the rollers not being used stop or idle.

RE: Performance Of Conveyor rolls

Wear is obvious sign of slippage; if you find traces of local wear, streches or similar you could suspect to unwanted entry of solid particles also.

Main way to prevent slippage is tensioning the belt - it strictly depends on tension strenght of belts alone. Many manufaturers supply belts with different kind of tension wire moulded into belts - this drastically improves tensioning possibility, having in mind that you need to check allowable load of main bearings (or allowable shaft deflection that will not damage bearings).

RE: Performance Of Conveyor rolls

We have seen amperage decreases in conveyors when the bearings in the rollers were switched to our Cobra Solid Lubricant. It makes a much freer spinning bearing. It is not right for every application, however it excels in high temperature applications, like steel mills

improving the efficiency of the conveyor drive

Eh what do you mean,
1. increasing the flow of materials?
2. Or Decreasing the power consumption?
3. Or Decreasing the downtime?
Or something else?

Depending on what your trying to achieve, will depend on the solution your seeking. So a little more info would be helpful.
