Empty filter-dryer shell effect

Empty filter-dryer shell effect

Empty filter-dryer shell effect

(OP)
hi everbody,
We had trane chiller(75 ton, one recip comp) working with suction acid-removal core for at lease one year - with normal oil level, then we decide to remove this core and keep that shell empty (without any filter),now we have abnormal oil level in compressor sight glass.
Is the empty shell effect the oil return deu to low refrigerant speed in that shell(300 cu.in with 4 core)?

thanks.

RE: Empty filter-dryer shell effect

You shpuld always remove the suction line drier core after a few weeks or by pressure drop and replace it with only a filter. To answer your question, I would definitely say that the oil return has improved when you removed the suction line drier core.
