Steel beam size for a 30 foot span

Steel beam size for a 30 foot span

Steel beam size for a 30 foot span

(OP)
We are constructing a stone workshop with a hoist system spanning 30 feet, and would like to know what size of
T beam we would need for a 1.5 metric ton load capacity.
Thanks
Oskar Kempf

RE: Steel beam size for a 30 foot span

If top flange of hoist beam is not attached to roof structure and hoist itself weights not more than 0.5 ton, use W12x40 (metrick equivalent is W310x60 where 310 mm is depth of beam and 60 kg/m is weight of lin meter of beam). Steel Fy = 36 ksi.
